Accident claims life of Dale County Sheriff's Deputy

Dale County Sheriff's deputy Donald Edward Williams lost his life in a one car accident on Wednesday evening.

Ozark Police and Ozark Rescue responded to the scene of the accident at South Union Avenue, where they removed Williams from the vehicle and tried to resuscitate him until the EMS arrived.  Deputy Williams was transported to the Dale Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead after lifesaving efforts failed.

Ozark Police Traffic Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation but it appears from the preliminary investigation that Deputy Williams suffered a medical condition which caused him to lose control of the Ford Crown Victoria he was driving.  No other vehicles were involved in the crash.  The investigation is ongoing.

Deputy Donald Edward Williams, age 57 of Dothan, served with the Dale County Sheriff's Department for 17 years.
